. Rameshwaran is a major pilgrimage centre. It is situated at the tip of Peninsula in the Gulf of Mannar. It is a town in Tamil Nadu in India. Along with Kashi, Rameshwaran is considered as one of the most sacred place for Hindus.
This place is near to Madurai (173kms) and Sri Lanka (80kms). It is believed that Rameshwaran is the place where Lord Rama built a bridge to rescue his wife, Sita from Ravana and later on Lord Rama venerated Lord Shiva to purify himself of the sins he committed by killing Ravana.
