U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., held a news conference July 5, 2012 on Eileen Yager’s farm, Richland, N.Y., to announce a $4.3 million federal grant to support farmers interested in growing shrub willow for renewable energy production.
In the next two years, the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) will enroll up to 3,500 acres of farmland in Oswego, Oneida, Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
