Medically speaking, the condition is Heart burn is referred to a state when a person feels chest pain or abdominal discomfort after eating or drinking or he feels fullness in the abdomen area, or feels a pressure in places around the breastbone and feels a bit giddy. The patient suffering from Heartburn feels a pain between neck and shoulders and also has a symptom of excessive gas and stomach growling in few cases.

Actually the exact cause of Heartburn is not known. Some experts say that some people tend to swallow air while eating or drinking that leads to Heartburn. Chain smokers often have a problem of Heartburn.

One of the best home remedies to cure Heartburn is to take care of the food that one consumes. There are certain foods like fatty, fried, and spicy foods, tomato and citrus products, chocolates, peppermint, pepper, coffee, tea with caffeine and alcohol that should be avoided to prevent Heartburn. Moreover while eating one should sit in an upright position. Moreover the food should be consumed slowly and chewed properly. One should avoid taking alcohol with food. If one goes for a small walk after meal, it gives great relief for Heartburn. But strenuous workout should be avoided after the meal.

Other than taking care of one’s food habits, if one consumes ginger, it is a great relief. Ginger can be taken in any form. It can be added with food or can be taken with tea without caffeine.

Eating a whole banana is a very good cure for Heartburn. Actually banana is said to be natural antacid. Another fruit that greatly helps in Heartburn is papaya. Papaya can also be taken in the form of pills after meal. Pineapple is also very beneficial for Heartburn sufferers. Increasing the amount of fiber in the food is very helpful to get rid of Heartburn. Taking in plenty of water also gives a great relief to Heartburn.

Another home remedy for Heartburn is Vinegar. Drinking 1 teaspoon of vinegar will give relief in Heartburn instantly. Home remedy for Heartburn is taking almonds. Almonds are Mother Nature’s cure for heartburn. Just eat 5 or 6 raw almonds without adding salt and you can feel the relief for Heartburn immediately. Another remedy is that you can grate or eat whole, a carrot or a Potatoes or an apple. One can also take baking soda mixed with water. It gives instant relief to Heartburn. Taking raisins is also a good cure for Heartburn. Take 6 or 7 raisins. Keep them in your mouth but do not chew them. Let the juice go in with the saliva. This will give relief in Heartburn within 15 minutes. Eating raw broccoli is another cure to Heartburn. One does not complain for Heartburn when he consumes lots of raw broccoli. Another simple remedy is mixing little bit of salt and sugar in your hand and eating it. This also has proved quite a relief in Heartburn.

Taking 1/2 cup of Cottage Cheese is also a remedy to Heartburn. The milk in the cottage cheese keeps the acids from coming back up into the esophagus. Actually some people drink milk for curing this. Milk can give a temporary sense of relief, but as it travels into your throat, your body will begin producing even more digestive acids, which will suddenly worsen an already uncomfortable situation. Similarly taking mints is also a temporary relief, but they add the possibility of acid reflux because they relax the sphincter valve at the top of your stomach, which stops acid from bubbling out of the stomach area. The resulting feeling will be even more painful as the acid moves up the esophagus, which over time can cause further damage.

If you are a sufferer of Heartburn, avoid eating anything before two hours of going to bed. Not even snacks. You may also try sleeping on one side or another on a slight elevation, using gravity to keep acids where they belong.
