Have you ever stared at a pantry or refrigerator full of food and couldn’t decide what you really wanted?  Sometimes we’re so inundated with options that we settle.  And, settling is like having to kiss your sister.  No one should have to settle when they travel.  Of course, though, life is complicated.  Sometimes we go to Disney World because we have two boys foaming at the mouth to go on The Tower of Terror.  But, regardless, at some point in your life you’ll have the opportunity to travel how you want to travel.  Nowadays, travel deals pop up left and right on the internet, making any destination feasible.

However, going back to overwhelming options, sometimes it’s difficult picking a destination.  And when you’re sacrificing time and money, you want to make your choice count.  So in order to avoid the dumbfounded pantry stare, here are a few travel destinations that, at the very least, might spark an original travel destination of your own.

Cape Town

Cape Town, located on the shore of Table Bay, is the second-most populous city in South Africa and the number one tourist destination in all of Africa. The harbor at Table Bay, which is set against towering mountains, makes for a natural amphitheatre setting.  The warm waters, sugary sand beaches, and breathtaking natural landscape make Cape Town a fun and relaxing travel destination that should be on any travelers’ to-do list.

Officially named the Republic of Maldives, this island nation is the definition of tranquility.  The country is formed by a double chain of twenty-six atolls resting in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean about 700 kilometers southwest of Sri Lanka.  If you’re looking for an escape, this is where you want to be.  Catch some R&R in an island bungalow resting over clear waters just off of a white sand beach.  Isolation has never felt so good.

Vancouver Island

Tucked in the southwest corner of Canada, Vancouver Island is a dream come true for lovers of the great outdoors.  Sport fishing, whale-watching, hiking, scuba diving, and skiing are just some of the activities available to visitors.  In fact, it’s the number 4 whale-watching location in the world.  Vancouver Island allows you to dabble in untouched wilderness, while still remaining close to the city of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.

While their neighbors to the north might not be so friendly, South Korea has rolled out the welcome mat in recent years to millions of tourists.  Seoul, the largest and capital city of South Korea, is a cultural and economic hotbed for tourism.  Seoul consists of a unique mixture of ancient architecture and modern skyscrapers.  The friendly natives and flavorful food don’t hurt either.

Antarctica is probably not the first place that comes to mind when planning a weekend getaway. But, recently, more than just scientists have been flocking to one of the world’s last vast, untouched wilderness.  Launching this year, compact luxury ships featuring outdoor heated pools, steam rooms, and private balconies offer intimate views of some of the world’s remaining glaciers.
