Translational Andrology and Urology (TAU) on “Male Infertility, Microsurgery and Men’s health”.
Philip S. Li and Marc Goldstein (Vol 3, No 1, March 2014: Translational Andrology and Urology. http://www.amepc.org/tau/issue/view/175 ) : We are honored to have been invited to edit this issue of Translational Andrology and Urology (TAU) on “Male Infertility, Microsurgery and Men’s health”. We extend our heartfelt thanks toward all editorial team members of TAU.
This edition is designed to be an up-to-date resource for urologists and researchers with an interest in male reproductive medicine, surgery of male infertility and men’s health (Video 1). We have invited distinguished authors on the frontlines of clinical and academic male reproductive medicine who have presented cutting edge basic research, microsurgical training and research, robotic techniques, the genetics of male infertility, fertility preservation in male cancer patients, and new animal models for studying the pathophysiology and microsurgical management of varicoceles. Multiphoton microscopy and Raman spectroscopy are discussed as techniques with the potential to enhance sperm retrieval and detect nerves in the spermatic cord. A chapter is devoted to androgen deficiency and metabolic syndrome in men. Another chapter addresses the substantial global public health implications of a device developed to accelerate large scale rollout of circumcision to prevent HIV, HPV and HSV in Africa.
We thank our fellows, residents and medical students at Weill Cornell Medical College and our international collaborators from Africa (EngenderHealth) and China (Shanghai Jiao Tong University Ren Ji Hospital) for their contributions to this special issue possible. We also thank Ms. Vanessa Dudley for the outstanding medical illustrations in several chapters.
