There are actually two major types of dandruff problems namely dry dandruff and oily dandruff. Dandruff is a skin condition wherein flakes of scales detach from the scalp and remain in the hair. Here are some tips on how to treat a dandruff problem.

The easiest type of dandruff to cure is the dry dandruff since it can be prevented quickly and will not recur unlike oily dandruff wherein it can return after it has been treated. On the other hand, it is still possible to cure both types of dandruff problems using just home remedies.

One of the most important things that you should do is to always keep your hair clean. The dirt which accumulates in the hair causes you to scratch it since it itch which results to scalp flaking. If you scratch your head, aside from triggering scalp flaking, it may also cause wounds as well as rashes. So if your hair is itchy, do not scratch your head instead you should clean it by taking a shower.

Choosing the right shampoo for your hair type is also important since there may be chemicals on other types of shampoos which can cause dandruff. If you are currently suffering from dandruff, you should choose anti-dandruff shampoo. It is not recommended that you use cheap shampoos since these may contain harmful chemicals which can irritate your scalp and lead to worse conditions.

It is also important that you use quality hair conditioner after shampooing to keep your scalp moisturized.

If you want, you can also try using shampoos which are made from natural ingredients such as different herbs. There are actually some herbal medicines which are more effective than other types of shampoos in preventing and treating dandruff problems.

Lastly, if you think that your dandruff problem is worse, you should consult a professional to ensure your safety. Do not self medicate.
