Sarah Palin

John McCain has made his decision as to who will counter Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket- who’s the person that will do the fourth debate for the Republicans? It’s Sarah Palin! Say What? Sara who? A woman? Yep and that’s a good John McCain strategy in that he’s trying to take advantage of the defection of many women that loved Hillary. But, will it work? Time will tell.

Sarah Heath Palin is the current Governor of Alaska,. She is the first female governor of Alaska, its youngest, and is the first governor born after Alaska achieved statehood. Brought to statewide attention because of her whistleblowing on ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders, she won election in 2006 by first defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election.

And this makes her ready to be President? Talk about Obama being a light weight! 🙂

But, she’s definitely Republican through and through. As she’s said, “I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman. I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Alaska.” So there, now you know this woman does not waffle.

While most Americans have not heard of her, Sarah Palin is a politician of eye-popping integrity. She is now the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state.

Her rise is a great (and rare) story of how adherence to principle–especially to transparency and accountability in government–can produce political success. Palin is a conservative who only last month vetoed 13 percent of the state’s proposed budget for capital projects. The cuts, the Anchorage Daily News said, “may be the biggest single-year line-item veto total in state history.” The far right base of the Republican party will love her!

As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman. Now that takes guts!

Palin, 44, the mother of five, passed up a chance to challenge Republican senator Lisa Murkowski, the then-governor’s daughter, in 2004. She endorsed another candidate in the primary, but Murkowski won and was reelected. She grew up in Wasilla, just outside of Anchorage, and played on the Wasilla state championship girls basketball team. She was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984, and was a runnerup in the Miss Alaska pageant.

She studied journalism and political science at the University of Idaho and graduated in 1987. After graduation, she eloped with her high school boyfriend in 1988 to save money on an expensive wedding. She helped out in her husband’s family commercial fishing business and appeared occasionally as a television sportscaster.

And can you believe that she had a baby just four months ago?

So we now know who the four top candidates will be in November. Both she and Joe Biden will be impressive in that fourth debate. Are you ready for two months of STUFF? 🙂
